303. She locked the room from outside, leaving stains on the knob.

Two bell boys crossed her on the corridor, but looked down as she passed.
When she was gone, they giggled at her impatience to be with her man, this late.
The dazed look on her face, mistaken to be an embarrassed flush.


309. When she opened the door to her room, it was dark inside.

“She has been sleep-walking again. It’s her big day tomorrow.”
Talking in hushed voices, the parents gently escorted the bride-to-be back to bed.

But they didn't see in the dark, the dagger and that the blue satin of her nightgown had turned dark red.
